Thomas F. Dewey, Jr.
grew up in Clyde, Ohio. He was a member of the
undefeated high school basketball team in the
1962-1963 season and the undefeated golf team in
1963. He graduated from Clyde High School in
1963 as Salutatorian of his class.
He went to Oberlin
College, in Oberlin, Ohio, where he was on the
varsity golf and basketball teams for the 4
years and graduated in 1967. He went to The
Ohio State University Law School in Columbus,
Ohio, and graduated in 1970. While in law
school he was in Army ROTC, and after passing
the Ohio State Bar examination, he served in the
U.S. Army as a captain with the Judge Advocate
General’s Corps from 1971 to 1976.
While at his first
duty assignment with the 4th Infantry
Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, he was a
criminal defense counsel. He served one year
with 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul,
Korea, where he worked in Administrative Law.
He served as Chief Defense Counsel for a year
and then was the Prosecutor for criminal cases
in Stuttgart, Germany, with 2nd
Support Command.
After completing his
tour of duty in the Army in 1976, he returned to
Clyde and joined the law firm of Dewey & Dewey
with his Father, Thomas Dewey, Sr. and Brother,
John P. Dewey.
He has been active as a board member, Sunday
school teacher and choir member in the Clyde
Christian Church. He has been President two
times and was Treasurer for 6 years at The
Fremont Country Club. He was on the Board of
Directors of The Clyde Savings Bank Company for
a number of years. He is a member and officer
of the Toledo District Golf Association Board of
Trustees. He is a member of the Clyde Public
Library Board of Trustees. He served as
Chairman of the Memorial Hospital Foundation
during 2007 in Fremont, Ohio. He was a member
of the Clyde-Green Springs Board of Education
from 1986 to 1994.
While in the Army he
met his wife, Barbara, who was an Army nurse.
She had served in Viet Nam in 1967 and 1968.
They were married in 1971. Barb resigned from
the Army in 1973. She has worked at Whirlpool
Corporation in Clyde since 1981 and is involved
with worker’s compensation and health care for
the employees. Barb and Tom have three children
and four grandchildren. |
